Orphan Policy Advocacy

Mission of Insurance Justice - Protecting the Rights of Life Insurance Policyholders in Canada

1.  Ensure policyholders fully understand and can exercise their contractual rights, while holding the insurance industry accountable for fair treatment and ongoing policy servicing.

2.  Empower policyholders through knowledge so they can make informed decisions about their policies.

3.  Offer hands-on assistance and guidance to policyholders and their beneficiaries to resolve policy issues, be informed of, and paid claim benefits that they are entitled to.

4.  Drive systemic change in the life insurance industry to prioritize policyholder service and transparency.

5.  Uncover and address gaps in service delivery so that policyholders and their beneficiaries can claim benefits without undue stress or obstacles.

By combining education, direct support, and systemic advocacy, Insure Justice can build a safety net for Canada's life insurance policyholders.  This mission not only protects individuals and families from financial loss, but also fosters trust and accountability within the insurance industry, ensuring that every policy fulfills its "promise to pay" and its "promise to serve".

Too many life insurance policyholders in Canada are not even aware of the built-in benefits they are entitled to, over and above the death benefit.

Here are the steps you can take today:

1. Find your Life Insurance policy (ies), including any and all documentation you have kept since purchasing your policy; for example, copy of the policy itself and any recent policy anniversary statements.

2. Determine the "documented" date of your last comprehensive insurance review of all of your "contractual policy benefits, including riders and options" (including a copy of any "Needs Analysis" completed by your Advisor.

3. Ask your Financial Advisor to conduct a comprehensive review of your overall protection planning needs and policy benefits, including a discussion of any "gaps" that may exist in your current insurance coverage.
